Anxiety is a normal emotion that helps keep us safe or that indicates something is out of balance. Many people experience anxiety in a way that is out of proportion to current life stressors. This can feel overwhelming and can even be paralyzing. Some people experience anxiety by worrying constantly, always anticipating the worst case scenario, or getting stuck in irrational fears. Others experience anxiety with more physical symptoms like a constant knot in the stomach, headaches, panic attacks, pain, and other medical problems. Many struggle with both types of problems and may have developed a variety of ineffective strategies to cope (e.g., avoidance, substance abuse). There are several well-established and proven treatments for anxiety, and therapy has been shown to be as effective or more effective than medications. I am trained in all of these interventions and have extensive experience in treatment of all anxiety disorders including panic disorders, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder.
