SERVICES

I provide psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and families. In my experience, people struggle emotionally for a variety of reasons — usually a combination of temperament (due to biology or upbringing), limited coping skills to handle current stressors, or inadequate support from healthy relationships. An initial appointment with me will include a conversation about your perspective on which of these areas needs the most improvement or support and your understanding of how these factors interact in your life and with your struggles. If you don’t know the answer to these questions, I will ask about current difficulties and through careful listening and good questions, I can help you begin to understand why you have been feeling the way you have and develop a plan to start feeling better.

What happens next will vary based on our mutual understanding of the problem you are experiencing. If you simply need a good listener, combined with neutral reflection and questioning to help you make a transition or decision in your life (e.g., changing jobs, relationships), then a few individual sessions may be very effective. If you are generally emotionally healthy and have good relationships but have hit a “bump in the road,” we may work on developing better coping skills. The number of sessions will vary based on the specifics of what you are struggling with, but generally 6-12 sessions can lead to significant improvement.
